Sencore TC162 Mighty Mite VII Tube Tester
- Calibrated -
The Sencore Mighty Mite series of tube testers are the best for finding shorts or leakage in a tube, as well as the life test. I was testing the tubes I put up for sale on my Sencore TC28 (TC28 is the same tube tester as the TC162) before testing them on a Hickok for micromhos values, but stopped because it was too time consuming. Testing on a TC162 has convinced me to start doing that again since a 5Y3GT (rectifier) tested almost NOS on a Hickok, and when I tested this same 5Y3 (I now use when testing calibration) on this and many other Sencore TC162s, TC28s, and other Sencore models, it became salient the tube was weak and out of life.
Pictures 3 shows that weak 5Y3 being tested with what appears to be"GOOD" results.
Picture 4 shows that same 5Y3 being tested for life and failing the life test thus the tube is not "GOOD".
Tubes tested included are a 12AX7, 6C3, 6AU6, 6AQ5, 6LF6, and a 6KM6 in the compactron sockets
All the sockets that tubes were tested in were very tight and no issues and put a new 9-pin noval socket saver on the noval socket.
***I put the socket saver on this particular socket since this is the socket used to test 12AX7s and similar tubes used today, and it was the newer 10 pin socket. That 10th pin is not needed and I remove it and reroute the wire if necessary, and install the socket saver so you do not have to use this socket without a socket saver. This 10 pin socket was only used for 2 tubes that I am aware of, and those tubes were used in TVs only for a brief time, and very doubtful you will ever need to test a tube today using the 10th pin. I eliminated the 10th pin and put a socket saver on that can now be easily changed if the socket saver wears out.
If you plan on testing a lot of Compactron tubes you can ask me about socket savers for those sockets. I have some and they were not cheap, and I will install them for the cost of the socket saver. The same is true for the 7-pin min socket.
The tube chart book was removed from the inside of the cover for ease of use.
The meter was cleaned and calibration checked and the tube tester is clean and the sockets look as good as new.
I also prefer testing sweep tubes and rectifiers on a Sencore since emissions is what you are testing and more likely to weed out a short, leakage, or a weak tube.
Easy setup and all solid state. This Sencore does not test the older style tubes so please know what tubes this can test before purchasing. The TC162 was calibrated per the calibration instructions included on the DVD that is included, but not pictured.
Included is a DVD (not shown) for tube data, schematic, calibration; which needs a jig made in an octal socket, or you can buy one already made by a seller on eBay at a very reasonable price.
The Case is in OK shape. It works fine, but shows some surface corrosion on the bottom. It is just not as pretty as it could be.
This is a very small tube tester even compared to my TC28 which is the same tester, but the TC28 has the additional transistor test capabilities, and is in a bigger case.
I have also worked on Sencore tube testers and have always owned one for the reasons mentioned above. I have rebuilt MU140s and MU150s, and have built parts for them, but no longer do so, or want to do so. On the other hand, the Sencore Mighty Mites are easy to calibrate and the best for the reasons mentioned above.
The Sencore Mighty Mite VII, TC-28 or TC-162, is the best tube tester Sencore ever made.
The pictures are part of the description so please enlarge them and take a look for better details.
The calibration test adapter and calibration tubes that may be seen in some of the pictures are not included.
