Madison Fielding Master Stereophonic Console 340
Stereo Tube PreamplifierI am not one to claim something is rare as many do, but this one is one the rarest vintage tube preamplifiers ever made. The Madison Fielding Master Stereophonic Console was one of the earliest “Stereo” preamps and was made in 1958 or 1959. There were not too many of these made before Madison Fielding folded.
It sounds fantastic, rich, and warm with neutral tone control settings. I have used it with a pair of JBL L100s and a Marantz 2265B and it sounds just great.

The DEMO video’s audio is limited to the mic on the camera, the speakers used for the DEMO, and the position of the camera. Also, I did not pull out a light kit for the pictures thus making the brass face plate appear to be odd colors at times just using the overhead lighting.I bought this to use with a pair of Macintosh MC30s that I never was able to get, and it appears that the guy I was supposed to buy them from is not going let them go, so I am letting this go.
PLANS:
I had planned on having the brass face plate cleaned, buffed, and restored with a protective coat put on. The 340 was made without any coating on the brass and why you can see tarnish. I also planned on changing the EM34 tubes. Pretty sure they are the original tubes, and luckily the good branded EM34 tubes are available and reasonable. Also, while making the DEMO video the AUX light on channel one went out. When you watch the video you can see it is working in the beginning, but burned out while making the video.
After taking the pictures I tested the six 7025 tubes and decided to replace them with 3 matched pairs. One pair powers the VU meters, one pair for the phono, and one pair for the AUX stage. There are now a pair of new Sylvania 7025 for the EM34s, and a matched pair of new RCA ECC83s for the phono and AUX stage.
The original wood case has been refinished and looks really nice, several capacitors have been replaced, the six 7025/ECC83 tubes are new, has all the original knobs, and the 340 has four phono stages; LP, RIAA, AES, and 78.
